FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Toronto, Ontario — November 3, 2026. The Armenian Genocide Museum of Canada (AGMC) invites families to contact the museum about photographs, documents and personal objects connected to the Armenian Genocide and the lives of its survivors.
This invitation continues the museum’s existing call for artifact contributions. It recognizes the role of families in preserving the material record of Armenian suffering, survival and the rebuilding of community.
A family object can carry a history
The Armenian Genocide claimed the lives of 1.5 million Armenians, murdered in a systematic campaign of destruction. The survivors carried memory forward through testimony, family life and the things they were able to preserve.
A photograph, a handwritten document or an inherited object can offer a starting point for learning about a person’s life. The accompanying information matters: names, places, dates, the identity of the person who kept it and the story of how it passed through the family.
The museum welcomes initial enquiries about relevant material. Families can begin by describing what they hold and what they know about it. Contacting the museum opens a conversation; it does not require an immediate decision to part with a family possession.
Remembering women’s experiences
AGMC’s educational work includes particular attention to Armenian women’s experiences and voices. Families with material that illuminates women’s lives, work, displacement and survival are encouraged to share information with the museum.
Contributors should distinguish documented information from family recollection and identify uncertainties where they exist. Both a clearly recorded fact and an honestly preserved unanswered question can guide further research.
How to begin
Visit Contribute an Artifact or use the museum’s contact page to make an initial enquiry. Please arrange any physical transfer with the museum in advance rather than mailing irreplaceable originals without prior discussion.
