Ambassador Andrew Turner Proud of Canada’s Recognition of the Armenian Genocide

During the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, Canadian Ambassador to Armenia Andrew Turner emphasized the enduring importance of remembrance and historical accountability. In his public remarks at the Armenian Genocide Memorial on April 24, Ambassador Turner underscored the solemn weight of the day and expressed deep pride in Canada’s official recognition of the Genocide.

“This anniversary reminds us all of the need to learn from history and to honour the memory of the victims,” he said, calling the commemorative ceremony “incredibly moving.”

Ambassador Turner also shared a personal connection to Canada’s recognition efforts, recalling his early work in the Canadian foreign service. “I am very proud that Canada recognized the Armenian Genocide,” he noted. “I had a small role in that — conducting research and helping to draft a senator’s speech on the matter. It is something I am very proud of.”

His remarks echo Canada’s longstanding position on historical justice and reaffirm the country’s commitment to standing with the Armenian community in remembrance.
